The biggest problem when a company or organization grows bigger is the problem with efficiency and communication. In order to deal with such an issue the Navy had to agree on an ERP implementation project that would work with one of the top names in the business which is the SAP ERP software company. The problem that SAP was faced with was the fact at just how vast the Navy’s departments span in size, numbers, and definition. The Navy needed software and hardware that allowed all its departments to be able to communicate with each other as fast as possible and with a great amount of security protocol. With the Navy ERP system they worked to build a secure firewall that would safely
protect the system from hacking attacks.

Why the major overhaul for data?

The fact that the Navy and it’s departments have grown so expansive and globally have caused a great concern among internal department among the Navy. Through the older method of faxing information became a bottleneck of information thus slowing down any process and it was less secure in the process. The Navy ERP definition is a workings of both software and hardware that is based on a main hub for transferring information to each specific departments database hub therefore letting information be transferred to and from the main database in a very quick manner and secure in the transfer.

Making the idea of Navy ERP a Reality

Since the Navy ERP plan was devised they looked at established business integration companies that had experience in the development of ERP systems that were open and closed source. The companies that applied for the job were SAP ERP, Oracle ERP, and Microsoft Dynamics ERP yet the Navy ERP project went with the SAP company as they were a pioneer in the integration of business software and ERP design. We aren’t sure about the overall cost for the system yet we do know that the efficiency of data transfer through the Navy ERP system has risen to business like levels instead of sub-par information exchange that was always causing more questions than answers. The Navy is now able to send out memos and messages to departments faster and more efficient than ever thanks to the Navy ERP system.
